Dubrovnik

I cannot even describe how blown away we were when we first saw Dubrovnik's old town (Stari Grad). Less than ten years ago, one out of every three homes in the Grad were bombed during the war. In the last photo, you can see that the roof on the left is original while the brighter roofs are the newly repaired ones. That last photo also shows the Placa, which is the original main street in Grad. Centuries of walking have polished the marble so that it is shiny and smooth. A few centuries ago, Dubrovnik used to have the world's third largest navy, and rivaled the Republic of Venice in money and power. This city has been ruled by various rulers and empires over the centuries: Venice, Napoleon, the Austro-Hungarian empire, etc.
